With controversy surrounding the current GIF format so widely used in online graphics (and the capability of browsers to display JPEG format images), the appropriateness of different image formats for different situations is a hotly debated issue. This article presents a case for the use of GIF files. Topics such as file size, data loss, transparency and interlacing are discussed.
